A scholarship fund in memory of Darnell Williams II, a popular Marvell High School senior who died tragically January 22, 2007 after an automobile accident, has been started at the request of the young man's numerous friends and family members.
Williams' parents, Clausey Myton Sr. and Sandra Williams, said the fund will be used to establish the Darnell Williams II Scholarship which will be awarded to a member of the graduating senior class at Marvell High School.
"We are happy to begin a scholarship in thanksgiving for our son's life," Mrs. Williams said. "He loved Marvell High School, his teachers, his friends, his church, and basketball."
A family spokesperson said the scholarship will be given to the senior who most exemplifies the character that Darnell exhibited everyday, including personal honor, integrity, high moral standards, a faithful commitment to God, family and friends, love of life, gratitude, and respect and compassion for all persons.
Many people across Phillips County, Arkansas expressed their desire to continue Mr. Williams' interest in education through a scholarship fund.
Darnell would be proud to know this scholarship, started by his family, will enable a deserving person an opportunity to pursue one of their dreams.
